// SWISS FOODTRACKER: ALLOW NUTRITION AND WIN iPAD
Every day we eat and drink a variety of food. Researchers believe that most people make more than 220 decisions about food and drink every day. It is not just about whether you want to eat or drink, but also about what and where, when, with whom, how much, etc. Not every food supplies the same amount of nutrients and energy, and each person also has their own taste preferences. The Swiss Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (BLV) wants to promote a healthy and varied diet in the Swiss population so that fewer people suffer from nutrition-related diseases such as overweight, hypertension, type 2 diabetes. A team from the University of Bern and the ETH Zurich will therefore aim to assess the curent consumption of certain foods and the information on the population of selected foodstuffs. The mobile application Swiss FoodTracker will evaluate your food consumption and give you feedback.
Download now, participate in the survey on food consumption, receive your personal evaluation by experts from the University of Bern / ETH Zurich and participate in a raffle for an iPad.
//HOW IT WORKS
Once you have installed Swiss FoodTracker, fill out a questionnaire that will help us to describe the group of participants. For the evaluation, we need information for 4 days in a row. For this purpose, you have to indicate in our checklist, which food you have consumed and in what quantities, whenever you have eaten / drunk, ie per meal. You will quickly notice that we are only asking for a selection of food. For example, no sweets, sweet spreads, and coffee and tea, nor beverages, are consulted. The checklist is based on food groups, so you can quickly orientate yourself. After the first day, you are familiar with the checklist, know how to check the checklist and which food to log. It is important that you also keep track of the next three days as accurately as possible what you have eaten / drunk. Always try to do it immediately after eating / drinking, otherwise it will be forgotten. Of course, we adhere to the statutory rules of data protection and use your data only within the scope of this study / survey. We treat your data confidentially, store it only in encrypted / anonymous form and do not pass it on to third parties.
// ABOUT THE APP
Swiss FoodTracker is a joint survey conducted by the Institute for Social and Preventive Medicine of the University of Bern and the Auto-ID Labs of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), commissioned by the Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine (BLV). FoodTracker is researching the use of mobile health apps in the field of healthy nutrition / nutritional epidemiology. The analysis of data collected across Switzerland is used to assess the food situation in Switzerland. On this basis, necessary measures to promote a healthy and varied diet are to be recognized, developed and implemented.
